Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed exchanged views on the latest developments in Yemen, UN plan for establishment of ceasefire in the Arab country and fostering political dialogue between different Yemeni factions.
Amir-Abdollahian highlighted the immediate need to stop foreign military attacks against Yemen and lifting of the human siege targeting destruction of infrastructure and killing and injuring thousands of innocent people in Yemen.
The deputy FM appreciated the constructive efforts of the UN secretary general and his envoy for Yemen, calling for a more active contribution of the United Nations to restore peace in the war-torn country.
The UN envoy, for his part, appreciated Iran's efforts to help find a settlement to the Yemeni crisis.
Cheikh Ahmed briefed Iranian diplomat on his meetings in Muscat with representatives from Ansarallah and Yemen's resigned government. "Muscat talks were progressive and all the parties wanted a negotiated solution to the crisis in the country," he emphasized.
He said a political agreement has been outlined and the Yemeni political groups are due to offer their viewpoint on a draft. He hoped that the draft agreement will be agreed upon by all parties.
